Citadel Development Rejected
Now for a recap of a story we brought you last night.
After three hours of public comment and planning commissioners discussion, the Marquette Planning Commission has denied the proposed project for the city’s historic Citadel property.
One by one, residents from the area stepped up to the podium expressing their concerns on the proposed 6-story addition to the Citadel building.
Based on the proposed plans, residents believed the drawings of the high-rise apartment building did not complement the physical surroundings.
Mixed emotions were expressed from the commission after hearing from the public.
There was some apprehension in turning down the project in fears that it could create a future court case.
Those against the plans were for future development on the site but said they believed the project did not match the character of surrounding properties.
The project was denied in a 5 to 4 vote.
