Finlandia Adds Six to Men\’s Basketball
HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University head men\’s basketball coach Charlie
Kemppainen is optimistic about the team he is pulling together for the new
academic year. Kemppainen reported today that, so far, six strong new
recruits have committed to play basketball for the Lions this fall.
Several key players graduated from Finlandia at the end of the 2009-10
academic year, so the recruitment season has been especially critical this
year for Kemppainen.
\”We have a lot of solid players coming to the program. And more importantly we have A LOT of good students,\” said Kemppainen. \”If we can keep these guys together, I\’m confident they will step up to fill the void. They could mature into a very good team.\”
Kemppainen sums up the strengths of these new players as follows.
From Houghton (Mich.) High School, Matt Strong, wing, \”has a good
understanding of the game and will be a great shooter;\”
Ricky Greer, a post player from Marquette (Mich.) High School, \”will battle
and give us some depth down low;\”
Tyler Koski, a point guard from Ashwaubenon (Wisc.) High School, \”comes in with the ability to score from the outside along with getting to the rim;\”
Tyler Luebbe, a wing player from Solon Springs (Wisc.) High School, \”is a
player that can finish at the rim and stretch the defense with his shooting;\”
Mike Miller, point/wing from North Dickinson High School, Felch, Mich., \”is
one of the toughest competitors we\’ve ever recruited…\” and
Kendrick Medearis, post player from Spanish River Community High School, Boca Raton, Fla., \”will give us a post presence on both ends of the floor.\”
