OnStar Helps Rescue Stranded NMU Students
Car technology gets 3 NMU studens out of a jam while they’re out for a joyride.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department got a call at about 5:30pm yesterday.
3 students were driving in the woods in Marquette Township, about 6 miles northwest of the Noquemanon Trailhead.
They were 23-year-old Kara Nordlof of Grays Lake, Illinois, 22-year-old Andrew McFaul of Greendale, Wisconsin and 21-year-old Andrew King of Gurnee, Illinois.
The 2008 Chevy Avalanche they were riding in got stuck in mud, but that Avalanche has GM’s OnStar help system.
The students called OnStar, who called police and gave the Avalanche’s GPS coordinates.
Sheriff’s deputies and Marquette County Search and Rescue used that information to guide the 3 out of the woods without incident.
