Marquette Assault Suspect Gets Stabbed

A Marquette woman is recovering after fighting off a would-be attacker in her home.

City police say it happened at 292 Whetstone Road, Apartment 4.

At about 3 this morning, the woman told police a man wearing a mask and carrying a knife broke into her apartment.

She was able to fight him off, stabbing him in the process.

The suspect fled the scene, but an NMU Public Safety officer found him and his vehicle at a Marquette Township business.

He and the victim were both treated at Marquette General and released.

The suspect is in custody tonight.

Police say it’s 43-year-old Suranit Imsumran of Marquette.

He’s charged with assault with intent to murder, 1st-degree home invasion, and criminal sexual conduct – assault with intent to commit sexual penetration.

Police also say the victim knew Imsumran, although they claim it wasn’t a domestic dispute.
