Fire Destroys Chocolay Township House
A Chocolay Township house is considered a total loss after a fire this morning.
Fire and police got the call shortly before 10 this morning about the fire at 1979 M-28 East.
Township Police Chief Greg Zyburt says one of the home’s renters turned on the dishwasher.
It blew a fuse.
The tenant then left for a short time after resetting the fuse, and the fire started during that absence.
The house is rented by Debra Sherette and Daryle Bernard, and owned by Harry Zimmerman and Constance Malinowski of St. Louis, Missouri.
Several other area fire departments helped tame the fire, which took several hours.
The State Police Fire Marshal will investigate the scene to determine an exact cause.
