Trial Date for Marquette Condo Fraud Case

The former Marquette businessman charged with condo fraud will go to trial in June.

40-year-old Joel Westrom will stand trial starting June 21st.

It’s expected to last at least a week.

Westrom now lives in Texas.

He’s facing 4 counts of fraud from the Hawks Ridge condominiums behind Econo Foods in Marquette.

Westrom is the last person who’s still facing charges in the case.

Michael Gokey pleaded guilty 2 weeks ago to fraudulent use of a building contract fund.

He’ll be sentenced next month, but that sentence will not include any jail time.

Prosecutors dismissed the charges against Brian Swift, Chad LaVallie and Ryan Bruns in exchange for their testimony and for repaying Eleanor Kovach of Gwinn the $75,000 she shelled out.

Her condo was never built.
