Weekend Murder-Suicide in Iron County
An Iron County man murders his ex-girlfriend over the weekend and then kills himself.
It started at about 9:30 Central time Saturday night at 205 Second Street in Bates Township.
47-year-old Kathleen Cronkright lived there.
Police say her ex-boyfriend, 50-year-old Antonio Rombola, shot her.
Cronkright died at Northstar Health System in Iron River.
Another man who was also in the house at the time wasn’t hurt.
Rombola left the scene for his home at 201 West First Street in Caspian.
State Police, county sheriff’s deputies and other state and local agencies followed him.
They say Rombola barricaded himself inside for the rest of the night.
Members of the State Police Emergency Support Team came in from throughout the state, and so did a K-9 unit from the Soo.
Some of those support personnel flew in by helicopter.
Police entered the house at about 7 Sunday morning.
They say they found Rombola dead in the basement from a gunshot wound.
