Escanaba Picks Traxys for Coal Plant Talks
Escanaba hasn’t sold its coal-fired power plant yet.
But the City Council wants to sell it to a U.P. company.
They’ve given permission to open up talks with Traxys North America.
Traxys is based in White Pine.
It was one of the 3 companies that placed bids for the 50-year-old coal plant.
Traxys wants to eventually convert it to burn wood biomass instead.
The negotiations are expected to begin shortly after New Year’s.
Traxys is also one of the companies that have bid on selling electricity to the city wholesale, which will be less expensive than owning the plant.
The city is looking over those proposals from wholesale suppliers right now.
