Ontonagon School Wins NFL Grant
Community support scores a touchdown for a western U.P. school.
It’s won a National Football League grant for new playground equipment.
Ontonagon Area Elementary School has just won the Kaboom! and NFL Play 60 online contest.
It beat out 1,200 others nationwide.
The school is being consolidated next year into the middle and high school building, which doesn’t have any playground gear for kids their age.
And it would cost just as much to move the existing equipment as it would to build a new playground.
Le’Ron McClain of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens picked Ontonagon to be in the top 5.
Then from among those 5 finalists, online voters chose the school, as well as another in Louisiana, to each get the $10,000.
The top 2 finishers received the same award.
But Ontonagon Elementary was the #1 vote-getter.
