High School Construction Skills Challenge
Area high schoolers interested in the building trades put their skills to the test in the 3rd annual U.P. Construction Skills Challenge.
The students aren’t in the job force full-time yet, but they’re getting some hands-on experience in the competition.
Students from all over the U.P. make up 8 teams competing to build the best wooden shed-like structure.
Just like the pros, they face challenges and have to fix any mistakes.
Lots of the students we spoke with say they’ll take away skills to last a lifetime.
NMU’s construction club and area building professionals judged the competition.
The teams get to keep the sheds and can auction them off as a fundraiser if they like.
