CCI Name Change Going Through
Cleveland-Cliffs said 3 months ago it’d soon be changing its name, and now it’s happening.
The company says starting next Wednesday, its new name will be Cliffs Natural Resources.
It’s the same name it wanted after the $4 billion buyout of Alpha Natural Resources that it proposed in July.
The deal hasn’t gone through yet, but CCI filed federal paperwork last week to change its name.
With the Empire and Tilden mines in Marquette County, CCI is one of the largest employers in the U.P.
Alpha Natural Resources is a Virginia coal-mining company.
It’s the country’s largest producer of metallurgical coal, which is needed to manufacture steel.
The combined company would have just shy of 9,000 employees.
