New CCI Contract Approved

Mine workers in Marquette County voted earlier this week on a new 4-year contract with Cleveland-Cliffs.

The results are in, and it’s overwhelmingly approved.

Members of United Steelworkers Local 4950 voted on the deal at the Empire and Tilden mines.

About 85% of them voted in favor of it.

The contract means an immediate raise of about $1.15 an hour, with guaranteed 4% raises every year of the deal.

There’s also a $6,000 signing bonus for anyone who started working at the mines before September 1st.

Increased dental and health benefits, and a profit-sharing plan, have been added as well.

Both CCI mines in Minnesota passed the contract, too.
