Suspended WI Teacher Back on the Job
A Florence County, Wisconsin middle school teacher is returning to his job after dragging a student out of the classroom by his shirt collar last year.
Nick Baumgart did that to a 14-year-old 8th-grader on June 1st, 2007.
Baumgart’s been reinstated, with back pay, and he’ll be back in the classroom starting tomorrow.
Baumgart was charged with felony physical abuse of a child, but he was found not guilty at his trial and the school system had never disciplined him for anything before.
Attorneys for the school system said at the time that what Baumgart did was an excessive response to an unruly student.
Baumgart’s attorney said that while his client deserved some form of punishment for what he did, it didn’t deserve to go as far as losing his job.
