Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post say the crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. when 31-year-old Shawn Hodgins of Marquette was driving a 2010 Ford Best Buy van westbound along US-41 when he lost control of the vehicle on the snow-packed road surface, crossing the median and colliding with three eastbound vehicles in a chain reaction crash. 22-year-old Davis Smith of Marquette was a passenger in the van.

Police say others involved in the accident were 54-year-old Frank Paris of Negaunee driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, 45-year-old Albert Randall of Negaunee driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup, and 33-year-old Roy Byman of Negaunee driving a 2006 Subaru Legacy.
