Today is World AIDS Day
About a million Americans are living with HIV, the virus that causes aids.
To help raise awareness of the issue, the world unites for one day to show others the importance of taking action.
Every year since 1988, December 1st has been recognized as World Aids Day.
The Marquette County Health Department marks the occasion with a tree lighting ceremony at the Peter White Public Library.
There are about 70 people throughout the UP living with HIV or aids.
Health departments offer a program to help those affected by the sexually transmitted virus and disease.
You can contact the Marquette County Health Department if you want more information about those HIV aids programs.
