Mqt. County Prosecutor Resigns
Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Gary Walker said in June that he’d leave the job when his current term is up.
But now he’s chosen to leave even sooner than that.
Walker is resigning, effective new year’s day.
He says he’s moved up his timetable because of budget cuts.
Walker says the funding for one of the assistant prosecutor positions in his office, and for a support staff position, has been eliminated.
He hopes his own departure will free up enough money in the budget to save the assistant prosecutor’s job.
It may also be possible to restore the funding for the support staff position.
Walker has been in office since February 1974.
That makes him the longest–serving elected prosecutor currently in office in Michigan.
