Update on the reconstruction of the Negaunee bus barn
NEGAUNEE — Negaunee Public Schools experienced a large set back with the collapsing of its bus housing. This led to the community coming together to help Negaunee Public Schools with transportation until replacement buses could be received and housed.
When fall came around, the school system set up preparations for what would end up costing over 1.5 million dollars for a new bus barn. Ironically, the buses may get their new home on the anniversary of the day the barn collapsed from too much snow.
“There is a good chance that our move in date will be pretty darn close to the day that the barn collapsed last year,” said Dan Skewis, Superintendent of Negaunee Schools. “So February 23rd was the day that was a disaster for us and people came to our aid and we were very grateful for that. Then we started the process of rebuilding in early fall. So there is a good chance that we will be in there at the end of this month.”
Superintendent Dan Skewis is excited for the new housing of the buses and hopes that this facility will be effective for the employees that operate out of it.
