Dog Show gearing up for 42nd year
SANDS TOWNSHIP — Beginning Friday morning, man’s best friend is set to take over the Marquette County Fairgrounds. The 42nd Annual ‘Dog Show’ hosted by the Marquette Kennel Club will be in town Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Dogs and their owners began arriving at the fairgrounds Thursday morning. People come from as far away as California and Florida to participate in the event.
Over 300 dogs will be on hand, all vying for the title, ‘Best in Show.’ Show Chairman Jill Rankinen says the judges have experience judging dogs in the most famous K9 event in the world: The Westminster Dog Show.
“Well the judges that are doing the confirmation are judging for body structure, the temperament of the dog, making sure they have full dentition, that they move right, that their gate looks very nice and smooth,” said Rankinen. “You take a lot of pride in how they look and what they do.”
The Dog Show will feature four shows in all- one Friday, two Saturday, and the fourth and final on Sunday. Tickets are $5 and you can get them at the show.
There will be food and drink on-site to purchase as well.
