Upcoming walk helps fellow neighbors in need
ISHPEMING — The St. Vincent De Paul Friends of the Poor walk and run is coming up this weekend, giving community members the opportunity to help fellow neighbors in need.
The goal of this walk is to raise money for residents in the area who need assistance with paying rent, utilities, or any other expenses that the organization can provide help with. Participants in the walk can decide where they would like their proceeds to go towards in the city.
While it is a 5K run, multiple walking options are also available.
Organizers of the event are hoping for a large turnout of participants like in previous years, in order to raise funds for residents in the community who need it.
“My goal is mostly if someone can’t pay their rent and are getting evicted, then we will have the money to help them with that. If people need help with their utilities and we don’t have the grants but we have it in our financial aid department, I want to have the money there to be able to help them with that,” said Event Organizer, Kelly Carlson.
The event will be held this Saturday at the Third Street Heritage Trail. Anyone from the area is invited to participate, a $5 minimum donation is suggested at registration. Residents are encouraged to sign-up the day of the event at the check-in location.
