Agriculture supplies for the schoolyard
ISHPEMING — A group of volunteers from Partridge Creek Farm provided supplies for volunteers to install garden beds and fruit trees at a local school.
The dirty work for creating an edible landscaping area at Greenwood Early Childhood Education Center in Ishpeming began around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. The volunteers planted fruit trees and garden beds to plant various fruits and vegetables.
“It’s very important to us to get healthy food right into the beginning minds of small children,” said Volunteer Dan Perkins, “and the idea of growing food and eating from the Earth itself is a concept we’d like to impart. Food doesn’t just come from the grocery stores, it comes from the Earth.”
Perkins added that educational courses are planned for the future along with information provided for parents. Partridge Creek Farm will continue to be active among grade school students as well. Their goal is to become an agricultural town.
