Absentee Ballot Deadline Running Out

Some members of the national news media are reporting that as many as 10 million people have already voted absentee or in early voting.

Many in the U.P. are expected to do so as well.

But the timeline for that is running out.

The polls will be open next Tuesday from 7am to 8pm.

You can get an absentee ballot if you know you’ll be out of town that whole time, if you can’t physically get to the polls without help, if you’re in jail or for some other reasons.

Marquette City Clerk Dave Bleau says the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is 2pm Saturday — your clerk’s office has to receive your application for a ballot by mail by then.

Of course, if you do that, you’re depending on the mails to return your ballot to the clerk in time.

The city clerk’s office will be open this Saturday from 10 to 2 to help out with absentee ballots.

You can also still apply in person with your city or township clerk on Monday until 4.

However, if you do that, you have to fill out the ballot at the office as soon as you apply because there wouldn’t be enough time to send it through the mail.

Bleau says the city has already issued nearly 1,200 absentee ballots.

So far, 75% of them have been returned.
