Lady Lions land Westwood’s Hebert
HANCOCK — A three-year varsity starter for Westwood High School (Ishpeming, Mich.), Gabby Hebert has committed to attend Finlandia University and play on the university’s Division III basketball team.
“I am very pleased to have Gabby be a part of our program,” said Terry Klemett, coach of the Lions. “She is an extremely good point guard, and is a leader on and off the floor.”
Hebert averaged 8.3 points, eight assists, four steals and three rebounds per game this year for the Patriots. She also shot 72 percent from the free throw line.
“She handles the ball and sees the floor as well as any guard I have seen, and will come in right away and play,” added Klemett. “Defensively she will be very tough as well. She’s the epitome of a good student athlete, and fits the mold of the type of player we want in our program.”
Hebert plans to major in nursing. She was named to the 2015 Mid-Peninsula Conference Second Team, and was recognized on the All-Defensive Team. Her Patriots earned a conference title during the 2013-14 season.
