Wildcats to face Bulldogs without Dahlstrom

MARQUETTE – It’s been an up and down season for Wildcats starting netminder Mathias Dahlstrom. He’s dealt with a couple of injuries this season. Dahlstrom was injured in Friday’s game against Alaska-Anchorage. He will not be available for the Wildcats this weekend at Minnesota Duluth.

There’s no official word on the extent of Dahlstrom’s injury. Wildcats head coach Walt Kyle would not say how long Dahlstrom would be on the shelf, just that he’s not available this weekend.
NMU will depend on backups Michael Doan and Derek Dunn to get the job done.

“Mathias has been outstanding for us. He’s been one of the better goaltenders in the conference, if not the country,” said Kyle. “To be without him is a loss, but with every loss there’s an opportunity. Both of those guys came in last weekend came in and got wins last weekend. They did a great job for us and we’ll go with one or both of those guys this weekend. They have to play well and do the job. It’s a great opportunity for them.”

“They’re a very good team we’re going to play against this weekend,” said NMU Co–Captain Ryan Kesti. “We have to continue to build on the success that we had last weekend. Only giving up 13 or 14 shots Saturday night was really a team effort and that’s something we’ll have to build on. Both Doan and Dunn played very well last weekend and we have confidence in those guys. As long as we continue to play our game, we’ll be just fine.”

“They’re obviously a good team, be we’ve also played good teams this year and we’ve done well,” said NMU Co–Captain Jake Baker. “We’ve played Minnesota State, Bowling Green, Michigan Tech, so it’s just like any other game.”

Puck drop both nights at Minnesota Duluth is set for 8:07 p.m. The Bulldogs are ranked seventh in this week’s USCHO.com rankings.
