Three arrested on drug charges in Luce County
NEWBERRY — Three people were arrested Wednesday in a drug bust in Newberry.
The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team East says it expanded several investigations in conjunction with the Luce County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie post and the 8th District Hometown Security Team. As part of the investigations, UPSET East detectives executed search warrants Wednesday resulting in the arrests.
A 43-year-old man was arrested at 404 East Truman Boulevard for three counts of delivery of heroin on or within 1,000 feet of school property and three counts of maintaining a drug house. Police say a female in the same residence was also arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor unrelated to the investigation. Three children located at the residence were removed and turned over to Luce County Child Protective Services.
A 28-year-old woman was apprehended at 310 West D Avenue for three counts of delivery of Ritalin on or within 1,000 feet of school property, and a 38-year-old woman was taken into custody at 312 East Truman Boulevard for two counts of delivery of morphine on or within 1,000 feet of school property, one count relating to an imitation substance on or within 1,000 feet of school property, and three counts of maintaining a drug house.
All three suspects were taken to Luce County Jail and are being held on a $50,000 bond each. Their Names have not been released pending arraignment.
UPSET East says investigations into the distribution of narcotics in Luce County are ongoing.
