Dianda bill to rename M-64 bridge clears Michigan House committee
LANSING — A bill to rename the M-64 bridge over the Ontonagon River in Ontonagon Township has made its way out of the Michigan House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
State Representative Scott Dianda of Calumet wrote House Bill 5715, which would rename the bridge the Ontonagon County Veterans Memorial Bridge. The next step is for the full House to take up the bill for consideration.
In a written statement, a spokeswoman for Michigan House Democrats says Dianda introduced the bill in July after the Ontonagon Counry Veterans’ Association recommended such a bill. Ontonagon County has about 1,000 living veterans out of a total population of 6,400.
