UPDATE: Calumet man arrested in overnight stabbing

UPDATE — 4:12 p.m.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say the suspect is Kyle Huuki, 26, of Calumet. He’s charged with felonious assault, or assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder.

Huuki is free on a personal recognizance bond on the condition that he has no contact with the alleged victim. His District Court preliminary exam is scheduled for July 23rd.

A Calumet man is in the Houghton County Jail after being arrested for stabbing another man overnight.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say the incident happened shortly before 2:00 a.m. outside a residence on Hecla Street in Calumet Township. The suspect lives in that residence. His name is not being released until he’s arraigned in 97th District Court. Police say he’s a 26-year-old man.

Troopers say they’ve determined that the alleged victim and the suspect got into an argument inside the residence. The alleged victim’s name will not be released; he’s a 25-year-old Laurium man. After both men went outside, the argument continued and escalated into a fight.

Police say the suspect went back inside and then returned with two kitchen knives. A witness inside the residence told officers that the alleged victim yelled something a short time later, leading someone to call 911. The alleged victim was treated at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and released.

Troopers arrested the suspect for felonious assault. Police say alcohol use was involved. The case is still under investigation and will be reviewed by the Houghton County Prosecutor’s office.
