U.P. Fair Trade Market
One group is bringing a fair trade market to the area to help support those in other countries get a fair price for their work. Over the weekend, you could find coffee, jewelery, baskets, scarfs and other goods all for sale at Fair Trade Market held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. This is the first market event for the group, in hopes to help disadvantaged artists in other countries receive a fair trade for their goods. All the money raised goes back to the artists who made the items and is not a fundraiser for the church. Prior to bringing the fair trade market to the area, organizers from St. Mark’s participated in a similar program with food called Equal Exchange. There will be another fair trade market on October 3rd and 4th. Organizers hope to plan a market every four to six weeks.
