Temporary New Home for Crime Lab
In the last 2 years, the State Police forensic lab in Marquette has been on the budgetary chopping block twice.
But now, there’s word that they have a solution, at least guaranteeing its short-term future.
Marquette State Representative Steve Lindberg was out talking with residents in Palmer today.
While he was there, he said he learned just this morning of the crime lab plans.
They’ll be moving out of the Spring Street lab in Marquette into an old U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service facility on Wright Street.
Lindberg says if everything goes smoothly, the State Police will eventually have a permanent lab at that same spot on Wright Street.
But with Michigan’s fragile budget, the devil’s in the details.
He says the particulars will have to be worked out in the next couple of months.
We’ll have much more on this story, including word from the state police themselves, coming up tomorrow on UGN News.
