Esky Marijuana Trial: Medical Use OK Before State Law?
An Escanaba man is going to trial in the near future for growing marijuana at his home.
He claims it was for medicinal reasons.
37-year-old Jason McEntire was arrested earlier this month.
Back in November, the U.P. Substance Enforcement Team made a drug bust at his home.
They say they found more than a dozen marijuana plants.
The raid happened after Election Day.
But it was before the new voter-approved state law allowing medical marijuana use with a doctor’s permission took effect.
McEntire and his attorney say he got the written OK from a physician in January.
He’s facing 2 counts of marijuana manufacture or delivery, and 1 count of maintaining a drug house.
McEntire is free on bond.
His trial date hasn’t been set yet.
