Gwinn School Board Considers Big Cuts

Gwinn-area parents and students are worried about what the down economy and dwindling enrollment are doing to their schools.

The Gwinn school board is expecting to have a nearly million-dollar deficit this fall.

And they’re considering a huge range of cuts to balance their budget.

School administrators, teachers’ aides and bus drivers have already agreed to a wage freeze for next year.

The board is also talking about eliminating art and music programs from the schools as possibilities.

So are getting rid of several varsity sports.

They’ve also been talking about closing Gwinn Middle School and moving 7th- and 8th-graders to the high school.

Students at the high school have been protesting since Friday.

Many of them will likely be on hand when the board gets together tonight.
