Judges Can Now Carry Guns in MI Courtrooms

A new state law is giving judges in the state courts the right to carry concealed weapons in places that most other people can’t.

And that includes the courtroom.

Governor Jennifer Granholm has signed the law allowing that.

Any judges in the state courts who have a license to carry a concealed weapon now have the right to carry their guns in state-designated gun-free zones.

Schools, hospitals, sports stadiums and bars have long been included in that distinction.

The Michigan Supreme Court added courtrooms to the list in 2001 unless the Chief Justice ever says otherwise.

The new law also applies to some judges no longer on the bench.

Retired judges have that same right.
