Postpartum Depression Grant
A new grant is reaching out to new Upper Peninsula mothers on a very personal level.
The U.P. Maternal Emotional Support Program is teaming with Marquette General and the U.P. Health Education Corporation.
The groups are trying to spread awareness of postpartum depression through education, risk assessments and outreach.
UPHEC used grant money from the American Psychiatric Foundation to spread knowledge all over the U.P.
Marquette General’s Family Birthing Center, along with UPMESP, is now assessing new mothers for postpartum depression.
Since last year, they’ve assessed 500 new mothers.
21% of the mothers were found to have high immediate risk.
UPHEC hopes with assessments and books, there can be more of an understanding of the condition.
