School bus collides with tractor-trailer
One student was injured after a school bus carrying the Munising girls basketball team collided with a tractor-trailer in Delta County.
Troopers from the Gladstone Post of the Michigan State Police say the incident happened around 5:30 Thursday evening on U.S. 2/U.S. 41 near the Escanaba River Bridge.
The school bus was driving southbound on the highway on its way to the team’s basketball game against Carney-Nadeau.
Troopers say the bus driver could not see the tractor-trailer due to the harsh sunlight, and was unable to avoid a collision, causing the bus to rear-end the trailer.
One student suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. The bus was heavily damaged and the driver was cited for failure to yield.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Rampart EMS, and the Escanaba Bus Garage, who provided a bus on the scene.
