Thanksgiving meal for Negaunee seniors
While many are at home prepping for Thanksgiving dinner, dozens of seniors received a special Thanksgiving luncheon today at the Negaunee Senior Center.
A carefully crafted traditional turkey dinner was served. The center staff says this was an opportunity to convey their appreciation for the opportunity to be of value and a thank-you for the countless smiles they bring to them each day.
“We really wanted to focus on being thankful,” Negaunee Senior Center director Kristy Basolo said. “I think a lot of times, this time of year seniors stay in their house, and we are trying to focus them back on what they are thankful for and make sure they know that we are thankful for them and all the things they give us as well.”
“Dinner was very well prepared. I’m here with my father-in-law and he is 89 years old and he is enjoying his meal here,” visitor Ron Heikkila said. “It is our first time being here and we are enjoying it very much.”
“The meal is wonderful; it’s a good meal. I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving,” says Rocco Carello, another first-time center visitor.
With lots of empty plates at the end, it must have been a very good meal. Almost everyone left with a take-home container.
The Negaunee Senior Center will be closed tomorrow.
