Life of a Conservation Officer
Learning what a conservation officer does was the focus of an information session held at Northern Michigan University today.
The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning arranged the session. A conservation officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resource explained what his daily duties entail. DNR officials say that it’s important for residents to know who they are and what they do out there.
“There is a significant part of the population, even in the Upper Peninsula, that doesn’t quite realize what it is that we do,” D.N.R Conservation Officer Trey Luce said. “It’s good to get involved. Anytime you have access to a conservation officer at a public forum, you need to take advantage of that because there are so few of us that cover such a large area.”
Conservation officers must uphold and enforce all laws, just like any other police officer.
