Woman pleads guilty to meth-related charges

A Sault Ste. Marie woman has opted to forego her trial after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges in Chippewa County Circuit Court.

Shelby Gauthier, 25, pled guilty to three meth–related drug charges in a plea deal with the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office.

Gauthier originally faced 14 counts, but will only sentenced for three: maintaining a meth lab, a felony punishable by up 20 years in prison; maintaining a drug house, a high court misdemeanor with a maximum two–year jail term;  and possession of less than 25 grams of a meth, a possible four year felony sentence.

Gauthier will be sentenced for all three charges on November 26.

Her partner in crime, Cody McCoy, 20, backed out of a plea agreement back in August.  McCoy will be headed to trial instead, where he faces twelve felony counts ranging from possession of meth to conspiracy to deliver meth or ecstasy.

The Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (S.A.N.E.) arrested the pair in March.
