Man arrested following high speed chase
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a high speed chase through Mackinac County that resulted in a man driving his ATV into a lake.
Robert James Frey, 37, of Engadine, was arrested on Saturday for fleeing and eluding and operating under the influence of alcohol.
Troopers from the St. Ignace Post of the Michigan State Police say Frey was driving his ATV on U.S 2 near Gould City Saturday.
When Troopers attempted to stop Frey, he slowed down and appeared to pull over. Frey sped off on U.S. 2 as Troopers approached him.
Troopers say Frey was driving on both sides of the road as the chase continued through Engadine. At one point Frey hit a patrol car, causing minor damage.
The chase continued until Frey drove the ATV into Millecoquins Lake. Frey was arrested following a brief standoff with officers.
He is currently out on bond, pending a preliminary hearing in the 92nd District Court.
The incident remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department.
