Drowning victim identified
Authorities say the Marquette Township drowning victim has been identified as a Detroit area teen.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post were dispatched
to the area of Little Presque Isle in Marquette Township Roy a
possible drowning incident at about 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
Troopers say four teenagers had been swimming in Lake
Superior on the north side of Little Presque Isle when one found himself
in distress and unable to reach the island. Others in the group made
efforts to assist the victim but were prevented by the onset of rough
water.
The victim, Kenny Rubbet, age 19, of Detroit was located by the Marquette
County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team in approximately 25 feet of water.
Rubbet was transported to Marquette General Hospital where efforts to
resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Also assisting at the scene were personnel from Marquette General EMS, the
Marquette Township Fire Department, and the US Coast Guard.
