Grieving family helps others
Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Inc. (GLRC), a non-profit provider of behavioral health services in Marquette and 10 other UP Communities, is publicly thanking the friends and family of Steven Stenfors of Negaunee. Stenfors recently passed away from complications related to a battle with substance abuse. GLRC officials say his family displayed a unique sense of generosity and community by directing folks to make memorial contributions to the agency, in leiu of flowers.
GLRC Foundation Coordinator Andy Chosa said, “Our staff, volunteers and board would like to express our sincerest condolences to Steven’s friends and family. Cary (Steven’s Stepfather) and Sandy (Steven’s Mom) Lincoln said that they would be happy if they could help just one person. They want to turn their pain into something positive and perhaps spare another family a similar ordeal. I am humbled by their courage in stepping forward as they have to bring awareness to the problem of substance abuse in our communities. The outpouring of sympathy expressed by those who knew Steven has resulted in over $1,000 in donations so far. Those funds will be used to expand our capacity and enhance our services and I hope that knowledge of this will provide some measure comfort to people that I am proud to know as neighbors.”
