Thank you for stuffing the bus
On monday, we at ABC 10 and CW 5 teamed up with other local businesses and the YMCA of Marquette County to help families get their children ready to return to school.
We called it the ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign.
We encouraged people to donate school supplies in the hope of filling a school bus parked at the Marquette Holiday Inn.
By Monday night, the bus seats were mostly full of backpacks and other items.
“We haven’t had a chance to actually go through it all,” YMCA Lake Superior Village Child & Family Center supervisor Ben Platt said. “This (pointing to a table behind him) is only a small portion of what we actually have, so we haven’t had a chance to go through it all yet.”
Prior to Monday, the ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign most recently took place in 2010.
There were enough donated items that year to help out more than 70 families.
“Holiday Inn folks just did a wonderful job,” Platt said. “ABC 10, of course; Radio Eagle, the Point; and, of course, the YMCA were all working together. We had lots of donations from many different people.”
Platt also thanked the Marquette Area Public Schools for donating the bus!
He suggests calling the Y at (906) 227-9622 if your family needs some of the donated items.
