Flag Day
Since 1916, June 14th has been designated National Flag Day.
It’s not an official federal holiday, but citizens are urged to fly the star spangled banner for the duration of the week to honor the adoption of the flag at the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
A number of local businesses fly the red, white, and blue year round to pay tribute to all the military members past and present.
It’s a fitting act of veneration given that Flag Day also coincides with the birthday of the United States Army.
