Repairs at Negaunee museum
An area museum is in the final stages of some long-awaited repair work.
It’s the Negaunee Historical Museum.
A car accident in June 2011 damaged the building at the corner of East Main Street and Brown Avenue.
The effort to repair the porch has taken nearly two years, but the work is now taking place, and it’s almost done.
“We want it to be repaired in the original form, and it was always known as a fine colonnaded porch, so we’re having all the columns put up and making it look the way it looked originally,” museum president Virginia Paulson said.
That original look dates back to 1909.
The porch should be complete right around when the museum opens for the season, which will be on June 1st.
