DWTS helps hospice patients
With only two days left, the final countdown has begun for Dancing with the Stars Marquette County Style.
Competitors have been practicing for weeks, all vying for the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. That award will be based primarily on performance, while the Fan Favorite Trophy will be handed out to the top online vote getter. Each vote is $10 and every penny will go to the UP Hospice Foundation.
“When you’re in hospice, you should get everything that you possibly need; any kind of support or empowerment. If a family needs to fly in some family members from across the country, they should have the funds to do that kind of thing. So the funds go back toward supporting those families during a very tough time,” explained Jeff Nyquist, PhD, CEO of UP Home Health, Hospice, and Private Duty.
They originally came up with the dancing with the stars fundraising format after visiting hospice foundations in the Eastern UP. Once word got out about the event and where the proceeds would go, competitors were eager to come on board.
“After you’ve experienced hospice and been touched by the story of hospice, you become an advocate for it. A lot of these couples have either had family members [go through it] or they’ve had a story of hospice. So that was the impetus for being motivated to be a part of it,” Nyquist added.
Tickets are already sold out for Thursday’s performance, but you can still help contribute to the cause by voting online through tomorrow night. There is no limit of the number of times you can vote and 100% of the money raised goes directly to hospice patients.
