Houghton Co. rollover accident
Four people were injured in a rollover accident on US-41 in Houghton County Monday afternoon.
Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say it happened shortly before 4 p.m. in Osceola Township near Paavola Road.
29-year-old Nathanael Shafer of East Lansing was coasting along the right shoulder of the road because his truck had run out of gas.
He tried to re-enter the roadway so that he could get his truck onto Paavola Road, but he did not see an oncoming truck driven by 33-year-old Nicholaus Lambert of Calumet.
Lambert’s truck overturned after hitting Shafer’s truck.
Lambert had two passengers in his truck, an unidentified infant and 62-year-old Clyde Mikkola of Calumet.
Shafer did not have any passengers.
All four people were taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and they have all been released.
Police gave Shafer a ticket for failure to yield.
Shafer, Lambert and the infant in Lambert’s truck were wearing seat belts, but Mikkola was not buckled up. Police say alcohol use was not a factor in the crash.
The Hancock Police Department, the Quincy-Franklin Fire Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety and Mercy Ambulance assisted at the scene.
