Rapid River woman arraigned on embezzlement charges

Jana Chaperon, a 39 year-old Rapid River woman, was arraigned in Schoolcraft County District Court today for two felony charges.

The first charge is for embezzlement of $50,000 to $100,000. The second charge is for using a computer to commit a crime. If convicted, the embezzlement charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

St. Ignace Michigan State Police Troopers were initially called to investigate the embezzlement allegations against Chaperon, which involved Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.

Chaperon was the director of the Woodland Meadows Assisted Living Facility, which was owned by the hospital. Chaperon had resigned from her position at the facility in the summer of 2012 prior to its sale.
