Fatal crash in Mackinac Co.
Mackinac County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatal two-vehicle accident.
It happened on US-2 near St. Ignace. Deputies responded to the scene around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to the deputies, a 2007 Toyota Corolla carrying four people was traveling west on US-2 when it attempted to pull into the scenic overlook.
The car collided with a 2008 Chevy pickup truck which was pulling a fifth-wheel camper and a small fishing boat. The car pulled onto the eastbound shoulder and the truck crossed the eastbound lanes and struck a tree.
The passenger of the pickup truck died. The driver of the truck had minor injuries but refused medical treatment. The four passengers of the car all sustained minor injuries and were taken to Mackinac Straits Hospital for treatment.
No further information is being released at this time. The Michigan State Police, Mackinac County Victim Services Unit, St. Ignace Fire Department, Allied EMS, and MDOT all assisted at the scene.
