Flood warning for Michigamme River
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Michigamme River in Marquette County near Witch Lake.
The warning is in place until Friday, May 10th.
The agency says continued runoff from melting snow will lead to the river’s level rising into this weekend.
Rain and snow are also expected into the weekend.
The total accumulation should be less than three-quarters of an inch.
However, forecasters say that combined with the runoff, the added rain should cause the Michigamme River to reach flood stage by late tonight.
The National Weather Service says that six inches of fast-moving flood water can be enough to knock you off your feet, and two feet of water will float a car.
They recommend never trying to walk, swim or drive through swift flood waters.
The agency says it’ll issue another statement by Friday morning.
