MIRA ice race cancelled

From the Delta County Commerce Center:

The Midwest Ice Racing Association, and TLR Cup Championship Ice Racing Series scheduled at the UP State Fairgrounds has been cancelled for 2013. This is not to be confused with the UPIR ice race scheduled for February 9th.

Steve Masters, Director for the Bays de Noc Convention and Visitors Bureau said, “MIRA organizers were unable to come up with a makeup date that would ensure team participation, so the event for 2013 has been cancelled. We were hopeful that a date could be found early enough in the season to minimize the chance of Mother Nature interfering with the race. After a few attempts by organizers to secure an alternate date, enough teams could not be secured to host a good race. The Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will continue to search for winter events to stimulate the local economy and put heads in the beds of its membership during what is traditionally a slow time for the local motels and hotels.”
