Soo meth lab defendants named
A man and woman will be back in court February 8 in connection with operating an active meth lab in the eastern U.P..
They were arrested Saturday, January 26. Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department secured the house and contacted the Straits Area Narcotic Enforcement team (S.A.N.E) to assist with the disposal of the lab. Three people were detained, and two were arrested.
Christopher Lee Yon and Morningstar Leigh Parish were arraigned Monday in 91st District Court in Chippewa County and are currently lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on charges of operating a meth lab.
The Sault Ste. Marie police was called to a home Monday during an investigation by a Department of Human Services employee. The DHS Family Independence Agency representative took a two-year-old at the home into protective custody and placed the child with family members after the discovery of an active meth lab in a basement of the house.
The house is located on the 2300 block of Andary Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie.
The charges against the two are: Operating and Maintaining a Lab in the Presence of a Minor, a 20 year felony; Operating and Maintaining a Meth Lab Near a Specific Place, a 20 year felony; Controlled Substance Operating and Maintaining a Lab Involving Hazardous Waste; Control Substance Operating and Maintaining a Lab Involving Meth, a 20 year felony; and Controlled Substance, Maintaining a Drug House, a two year felony.
The incident is still under investigation.
