Subway Restaurant Robbery Suspect Arrested

UPDATE:

50-year-old Brook Grzelak of Green Bay was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Allouez Wisconsin.  Grzelak was identified in a multi-state investigation into burglaries of fast food restaurants.

Grzelak was identified as a suspect after an alert Escanaba Public Safety Officer noticed a vehicle, which he thought looked out of place. The officer ran the license plate number, which returned to Grzelak.  This information was valuable because soon thereafter it was reported that the Subway restaurant in Escanaba had been burglarized.

Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety in Wisconsin was investigating a number of burglaries, which matched several burglaries that occurred across the Midwest in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Michigan.

Grzelak is being held in the Brown County Jail on a Probation and Parole hold as the investigation continues.  Authorities are hopeful that the capture of Grzelak will lead to solving many other burglaries, potentially up to 70 of them throughout the Midwest.

A Green Bay man has been arrested in connection with the robberies of both of the Subway restaurants in Escanaba last week.

Escanaba Public Safety says that he’s 50 years old.

His name is not available at this time.

Both Subway stores in Escanaba were robbed in the late-night hours of last Wednesday, December 12th.

Police say an undetermined amount of cash was stolen from both safes.

They warned law enforcement agencies in the U.P. and Wisconsin about the possibility of more Subway restaurant burglaries.

On Tuesday, the Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin Police Department arrested the Green Bay man on a probation violation, acting on information that Escanaba Public Safety had given them.

The arrest led to a search of the suspect’s vehicle, which uncovered evidence linking him to the Escanaba robberies.

Police say the man is suspected of being linked to many burglaries in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and the Dakotas focusing on Subway restaurants.
